What is Business Analysis?

Business Analysis is the field which mainly concentrates on identifying the business needs. It is Business Analysis which does thorough research on the problems to provide determining solutions.

There are different methods to identify the business problems, solutions, and needs. Following are the steps involved during business analysis:
  1. Understanding the Issues or problems
  2. Preparing a rough scope documentation based on the acquired problems
  3. Comparing with the as is environment
  4. Conducting feasibility study based on the infrastructure, technology, and the human source.
  5. Preparing a final scope documentation based on the feasibility study. The scope document is also called as Functional Specification or Business Requirement document.
  6. Preparing User Acceptance Test document including two types of test cases, namely, positive test cases and negative test cases.
In general the business analysis document flow is as follows:
  1. As-is document
  2. Project vision document
  3. Solution vision document
  4. Business requirements document
  5. Business process design document
  6. Use case model document
  7. Use case specification document
It is true that pictorial explanation of any concept is simpler than the text version. To explain the concept in a simpler way, the Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams are widely used. The UML diagrams simplify the understanding of the project and thereby offer immediate result. There are various types of UML diagrams which we will see in the further sections.
